Introduction to the Ashwhin Cards of Triumph - Fusing Art and Spirit
I have long been fascinated with cards, their design and their attraction. As I child I played classic games, in my teens I was introduced to tarot, and later to I Ching cards. The cards were present in my life, and I gave occasional readings but thought little about them.
When I did work with the tarot decks I had collected, I was uncomfortable with many of the images, and questioned the traditional meanings assigned to many of the cards. I thought about creating my own set one day, but knew this would be a huge undertaking. It was not the right time.
Then on 14th February 2009 - when I offered to do tarot card readings at a local open day, things changed. I was fully booked within the first hour of the event. It was more than obvious that cards were appealing to more people than ever before and I began to seriously consider designing my own set.
The imperative to create this new set of cards has been spirit led. It seems that we need more affirmation in this time of changes, and this card set can be a source of comfort and illumination.
But I wanted to create something unique - capturing the energies and wisdom from our ancient ancestors and our inspirational leaders here and now. And of course I wanted to make each image speak of the nature of the card's energy.
I was completely drawn by the idea and it has taken me in many directions. I've learned much about the tarot, and many other divination sets, about traditional beliefs and folk wisdom, about how meanings of elements and numbers are often similar world wide.
Slowly a new order emerged. It wasn't tarot, for too many of the traditions had been shed, there were still 78 cards in the deck but each one was unique and fresh. Each card's meaning was derived from its element and numeric association, and is further clarified by archetype and guide.
The Creative time is here
I have done all the research and channelling required, and done some naive drawings in which I have tried to capture the essence of each cards' energy. Now my challenge is to create the final alchemy, to paint the final designs in a coherent and distinct style that links the set together, yet allowing the force of each card to be itself. And with the 78 paintings done, the cards will be designed and a book written describing my personal journey and the powers of the cards, and how to enjoy using them yourself.
